Embers and Excuses by Future Hits ‘25

This fun pop-infused country song will get stuck in your head before you even have time to stop it. While I couldn’t figure out who the vocalist is, I really enjoyed the lead guitar work, the dynamics throughout, and the delightfully snarky way the speaker of the song calls out their romantic partner for being less than ideal. If you’re in need of a confidence boost after your recent relationship ended, this song is just the ticket. Bonus points if you strap on some cowboy boots and take this one to the dance hall.

Everything Moves by Monotronic

Like the title suggests, this song has all the energy of 5 cups of coffee - but without the caffeine crash. Reminiscent of a slightly-futuristic jaunt, ideal for a run on the treadmill, it’s a creative way of adapting pop music to the ever-changing techno genres. Listen to this one for a reminder that life never stays the same forever — and that’s a good thing. Celebrate all the changes around you while being present in the moment that you’re living in, and let this song be your soundtrack.

The Many Ways by John Arter

Jessie Elizabeth

This energetic track was described by the artist as a “drive through a storm, some sort of apocalyptic disaster behind you” - and I can certainly see why. Cognizant of a Pixar-level adventure film with the hero fighting their way to safety, this cinematic tune has imaginative lead guitar work blended with soulful lyrics that will inspire listeners to stay grounded even when the sky is falling. I love the theme of stability in this song, and the way it builds on itself before chilling out for the satisfying conclusion. Listen to it anytime you need a pep talk reminding you not to give up. It’s the moment you wonder if taking that risk is worth it, when this song will give you that extra boost you never knew you needed.

Kicking In by Skittish

This ear-catching sea-worthy rock song is such an unexpected earworm in the best way. Listening to it brought out my inner music nerd, who was obsessed with trying to figure out the time signature that was definitely not in 4/4 time. Somehow they engineered this tune with some kind of kinetic magic that made it physically rock back and forth as if it were written on the undulations of the ocean waves. The electric guitar work and subtle angst about the ebbs and flows of life will inspire you to embrace all the ups and downs in stride.

Machine by Jessie Elizabeth

For a breath of fresh air, this song will invigorate your senses and inspire you to be brave enough to step out of the box. Sonically, it’s a cross between music by Sheryl Crow and teenage Taylor Swift (before all the techno-laced angst took over). Bonus points for the pedal steel guitar and the hometown feel that’s cozy without being boring, as the fresh vibes bring up a contemplative mood that will set the tone for your next daydreaming session. “If I don’t go, where will I be?” is the overarching message and the call to action encouraging listeners to abandon the temptation to only play a small, uniform part in society.
