Angelina’s Corner: Roundup

Come On! by Kaiser

This high-octane rock song will bring the energy anytime you want to fuel the party scene or a workout. It reminded me of a song that might’ve been included in the movie School of Rock with Jack Black shredding on that face-melting guitar solo. Even though it’s not Jack Black on lead guitar, the song is catchy, memorable, and so much fun. It’s a great blend of classic rock styles with the more contemporary vibes that are perfect for blaring out your convertible speakers on a summer evening. Play it loud and on repeat for best results.

The Thing with Feathers

Breaking Bad by Kelsi Mayne

“She might’ve got there first / but I’m gonna make it last” is the most memorable line of this country song about sealing the deal on a relationship that someone else took for granted. The style reminded me a lot of Kelsea Ballerini’s songs, and I really like the wholesome vibe of the song overall. It’s also a girl-power anthem, with well-articulated sonic dynamics throughout including a brief acapella section with some light percussion, before expanding back into the banjo and other string instrument mix. Best enjoyed with a glass of unsweetened iced tea on a warm evening, you can bet you’ll be humming this song for weeks.

Different Life by Kathmandu

This spritely pop track really ebbs and flows with the vocals. There’s something whimsical about the instrumentation, and the positive vibes are unmistakable. If you’ve been looking for a sign to take that leap and choose a new path, this song will inspire you to go for it. I also really liked the smooth vocals and the reminder that it’s never too late to start something new or take a risk. Bonus points for the bright vocal harmonies sprinkled throughout the song. For a new perspective and the gumption to make your dreams your reality, this song is just what you needed.

Miniskirt by The Thing With Feathers

This fun and flirty track is all about the early phases of a new romance, and all the excitement and uncertainty that comes with it. I was drawn in immediately at the beginning of the song with the energetic percussion and bright lead guitar and rhythm work. Not only is this band name intriguing, but the guitar licks are something straight out of the 2000s pop rock era (like The Click Five or Fountains of Wayne, just to name a few). Whatever brings you to this fun track, you’ll find a piece of yourself in the lyrics and feel instantly motivated to give your new crush a chance at something real.

Pass Mistakes by Thompson Newkirk

I really appreciated this surf-inspired song that’s relevant to city life and the urban experience that comes with it (as the artist explained). What an interesting way to describe this particular kind of fusion music, with an added melodic flair on the guitar that’s equal parts shred-worthy and thought-provoking. No matter how this song finds you, your life will be better for it. I even detected some slight country influences, and this artist manages to bring everything together without it feeling forced or off-putting. Listen to this song whenever you need help getting your own creative juices flowing.
