Angelina’s Corner: Roundup

Keep the Flame by Mitch King

This beautiful introspective song is all about viewing life as a holistic experience that brings blessings even in struggles. I loved the warmth of the acoustic guitar alongside the vocals and emotional lead guitar moments weaving throughout. Perfect for fans of Bon Iver and Noah Kahan, this artist’s journey is well on its way, and this song will carry you through every day of yours. Ideal for porch-sitting on a summer evening, or holding a cup of your favorite beverage to keep the cold away. Don’t forget - “it only takes just one flame to light the dark”.

Sneakin’ Around by Macey Mac

This angst-driven sultry track has all the sensibilities of your next country obsession post Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats”. The storyline depicts a girl obsessed with dating a guy that her family doesn’t approve of, even though she knows “head’s gonna roll when the truth comes callin’”. It’s the good-girl meets bad-boy trope that everyone secretly loves, and has the added boost of lead guitars amping it up a few notches. Great listening for a girls’ night out or any other time you need a little cathartic energy release.

Who You Became by Meredith Taylor

The polar opposite of the previous track, this song is a more melancholy tune about missing someone you love. Whether it’s due to work obligations, or difficult situations, this song will bring you so much comfort when you need it most. Her vocals are sugary-sweet with absolutely gorgeous harmonies mixed with the quintessential relaxed country rhythms that you’d expect from a USA starlet. Whether you’re celebrating your own love, or missing a love you lost, this song will hit all the right notes.

Fold by Travid Halton

Another traditional country gem, this song is a great reflective track about who you are and what you want to accomplish in life. Specifically, the speaker is thinking about regrets he had about his past relationship. The waltz beat adds such a lovely romantic quality to the overall piece, and I’m confident any listener will find a piece of their own story nestled within these lyrics. Pedal steel guitar and other ambient notes work together to build a beautiful composition that will stick with you long after the last note.

Home by The Wave Machine

Rounding out this week’s list is a beautiful sea-worthy ballad with an added rhythmic flair. Unique vocals and the relatable message of being able to find home wherever you are blends together for a comforting auditory experience. I loved the sensory elements sprinkled throughout that break the “fourth wall” with the listener, like the brief piano notes when the instrument is mentioned. This is best listened to outside where you can reflect on your home and close relationships, with an added dose of gratitude to intermingle with the soothing notes of intelligently-articulated lead guitar riffs.
