Despite the release date only being at the end of April, the track has quickly become his most popular to date, garnering over 30,000 Spotify streams in less than a month. The track follows the success of two other recently released singles, “No Promises,” and “See You Again.” Amongst his entire discography is themes of infectious positivity and empowerment. The singer-songwriter shares that, “I write uplifting and empowering pop music because no matter how bad things get, I love to stay positive. But I try to be real with my lyrics, and I write about isolation, heartbreak, and empowerment.”

“I Can’t Look At You Now” centers around the same theme. Described as a chill queer pop banger, the track is about not being able to be around the guy who broke his heart. Bringing heavy feelings and hard-hitting lyrics to an upbeat and binge-worthy track is something Nick Catoire definitely excels at. Turning his feelings into catchy choruses, the singer-songwriter writes both for himself, and to be the queer perspective in pop music that he’s always longed to hear.

Although the meaning behind the track is pretty obvious, Nick Catoire has a unique stylistic approach to confronting these feelings of longing and melancholy. Turning the emotions into lyrics, the singer-songwriter puts rhythms of positivity and empowerment into the track. From the steady beat of the drums to the airy layered vocals, Nick is able to take a common feeling and represent it within his words like no other.

Nick Catoire prides himself on being riffy, soulful, and a little bit extra. With all of these traits clearly displayed in this new track, our team at Tongue Tied Mag is so excited to see what comes next for the singer-songwriter.
