Angelina’s Corner: Roundup
Words by Angelina Singer
This song hits the sweet spot between country and folk, with some clever lyrics and beautiful poeticism that will inspire you to start journaling again. It’s a beautiful tune about realizing that the person you’re with will be the one you get to experience all of life’s adventures with. Basically, it’s a more whimsical spin on the idea that getting older is mandatory, but growing up is optional. Some ethereal guitar riffs float throughout this song as you daydream about your own future with the one you love most.
C’est Ça
First One to Figure It Out by Evan Jackson
This fun grunge-pop song is going to take over your brain — but you won’t be mad about it. Channeling punk artists like Weezer and Citizen, it’s got this delectable 2000’s quality to it that will take you right back to the good old days. It’s got fuzzed-out lead guitar, and a driving drumbeat and high hat that you can rest your hightops on. I liked the way the emphasis of this song is all about finding yourself and not being afraid to wing it along the way. Wherever this song finds you, I promise it’ll be a great addition to your next road trip soundtrack.
I’m not entirely sure how they pulled this one off but this song literally sounds like a sunrise. Maybe it’s the light, glimmering major intervals that grow alongside the dynamics like a powerful cosmic orbit. No matter what their secrets are, I recommend this tune. It’s full of positive energy and sounds a lot like something Coldplay might produce. Bonus points for the fun rhythm changes that will keep you on your toes. Perfect for bringing some brightness to a rainy day, or just reminding you that there are always opportunities to grow and change no matter what struggles life brings you.
This one has an incredible ambience to it, that brings you to a great headspace if you need to think or reflect. The message is all about how sometimes people can lose connection with one another because they’re at different places in their lives. The vocals are beautifully harmonized together, with layers that transport you to another world. The overall tone is one of acceptance, peace, and understanding despite life taking two people in separate directions. I found this comforting as I’ve experienced this before and have learned to take everything in stride without stressing about it.
Straight from your mid-2000’s playlist, this diary-laced bedroom-pop grunge tune hits all the right notes for your highlight reel of memories. The lyrics are really emotional and heartfelt, with a great sense of empathy for the other person even in a stressful experience like a breakup. Bonus points for the emotional maturity that’s exhibited here — trashing your ex is so last year, after all. Here’s to glowing up and growing up at any age, and accepting where your relationship has gone even if it hurts.
