The Coca-Cola Roxy was filled with love on Valentine’s Day, for Finneas’ sold out show. A mix of red and pink filled the crowd, with couples sprinkled around. The Los Angeles born singer released his third album, “For Cryin’ Out Loud” early October, and fans were eager to hear it live. This adoring night consisted of memorable piano solos, Finneas’ powerful voice echoing throughout the venue, and a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors with a fan.
Starting off the night to an electric start was Bad Suns. Formed by Christo (lead vocals), Gavin (bass), and Miles (drums), they have been putting out music for 10 years, and have no plans of stopping anytime soon. The California band entering the stage with blue lighting and went into “Swimming in the Moonlight.” Their next song was “Salt,” with a smooth transition into their own cover of “Lovefool” by The Cardigans. Bad Suns then played “Baby Blue Shades” and “Off She Goes,” with some fans singing and dancing along with them. Less than a month ago, they released “Communicating,” an upbeat indie single. The final song was “Daft Pretty Boys,” drums solos from Miles echoed the arena and Christo shredded his guitar. Bad Suns left the stage and their curtain dropped to reveal Finneas’ elegant set.
Forty-five minutes later, the lights dimmed and Finneas’ band starting playing their instruments. The stage design was a 9 layered curtain with four lights on top. Starting off the set with a few songs from his new album, Finneas peacefully walked to the piano and began with “Starfucker.” After this, he grabbed his guitar, walked to the microphone, and played “Lotus Eater.” The green and purple lighting mirrored the energy of the song perfectly. The lights faded into warm amber with “Cleats” playing. An alternative-indie track with a groovy guitar riff throughout the song. From amber to purple and red, the drummer, Miles, went into “Sweet Cherries.” The sweet song had a funky keyboard, with a soft trumpet solo. Halfway through the 5-minute track, Finneas walked to the piano for the last 2 minutes. His beautiful harmonies filled the room with couples swaying along.
Throwing it back to 2019, the venue was blue, and he played “Angel.” The angelic single showcased his powerful voice, and fans had their flashlights on. Finneas walked back from the piano, to the microphone, for “The Kids Are All Dying.” The lights were green and when the strong drum kick happened, they changed into red. This lighting transition surprised fans, and it was one of the memorable lighting designs of the night. Another single from 2019, “Partners in Crime,” is a take on Bonnie and Clyde. Finneas’ acoustic guitar filled the venue, with fans singing along. Before the next song, he spotted a fan with a Rock, Paper, Scissors sign, to play “Happy Now.” The fan won, and he played it during “Little Window.” Fans erupted into cheers and everyone was happy it made a way into the set.
For the last few songs “Break My Heart Again,” “Let’s Fall In Love For The Night,” and “For Cryin’ Out Loud!,” the crowd was not afraid to sing their hearts out. Finneas couldn’t contain his excitement and was smiling throughout the whole night. His soothing voice, with his impactful lyrics, makes him a force to be reckoned with. If Finneas is ever in your area, make sure to catch his beautiful show!
