Q&A: Nostalgix

It’s the year of house music and who better to start us off with a new record than Nostalgix, an Iranian Canadian producer, writer, and rapper that is taking the world by storm. Nostalgix just released her most recent EP Star City featuring collabs with Rico Nasty, DEV & more, and we got the chance to ask her about it.

I know you’re in the middle of your tour, what has been your favorite song to perform off of your new EP?

I’ve been loving performing ‘Real Girls’ just because it has so much energy. And specifically when I was making both of the drops for the song, I wanted to just go in and approach it differently where both drops have like a little bit of a different feel. So it’s just really cool to see everyone’s reactions hearing it live because no one expects it. It’s been so sick!

There’s bad bitch energy, party energy, and even soft girl energy. What energy would you say your EP gives?

I would say power, power would be the energy behind Star City

How would you describe your music to someone who can’t hear?

I would say: it makes you feel strong, it makes you feel powerful, it makes you feel…like a bad bitch!

You have a big year ahead of you with your tour, Tomorrowland, Ultra Miami, etc. What is the biggest thing you’re looking forward to this year?

Honestly Tomorrowland has been one of my dreams since I started making music. It’s been 8 years of me saying ‘I’m gonna perform at Tomorrowland one day, y’all just wait and see!’ so I’m just so excited to get to go there and play the EP at Tomorrowland and just show everyone everything I’ve been up to

If you could transport listeners to the perfect place to listen to Star City for the first time, where would you pick?

Oooh I think by the Hollywood sign at night, but no one else is there. And the Hollywood sign is lit up and you can see the stars all up in the sky. And you can only hear the EP and enjoy it, with no animals about to attack you *laughs*. That’s it, that’s the location, it’s just like looking at the beautiful stars, and the view, and having the Hollywood sign behind you.

Are there any songs on the album that are tied to a specific feeling or memory?

I’m gonna go with Need You, because for me Need You was a song that I wrote in a time where I was moving past someone and forgetting somebody in my past and moving forward with my life. So I wrote that song as like a way to move on from that, because… “I don’t need you no more”! It’s a very empowering record for me to be like “hey, this was a chapter but it’s close and we’re moving on”.

Do you have a favorite line from any song off your EP?

“Go against me, that’s war” has just become a thing because anytime I see someone I’m like ‘go against me that’s war!

Make sure to check out Nostalgix’s EP Star City anywhere you listen to music and follow her on Instagram to keep up with what she’s up to next!
