Interview: Lia D’sau

18 year old sing-songwriter Lia D’sau is bursting into the music scene with her soulful, smooth debut single “Manboy”. With gorgeous R&B vocals and impressive lyrical maturity, Lia refuses to be walked all over in a doomed relationship with a childish, careless lover. I got to chat with the stunning new artist about “Manboy”, her dad’s history of boyband fame, and the process of creating music from her home in Tel Aviv, Israel.

For Lia D’sau, music has always been there. She grew up on the likes of indie/R&B sounds as well as the musical influences of her father, who, interestingly enough, was a member of Israel’s most notable boyband in the nineties! D’sau has been singing since she was a child and as a young adult, can’t see herself doing anything but music.

Manboy” was released to the world on June 24th and is already gaining traction online and on Spotify as a beautifully-crafted debut single for D’sau. She says the inspiration for the new song came from a recent relationship that ended in flames due to her lover acting like a child, instead of a mature young man.

When I worked on Manboy I could definitely visualize the song, I felt like I was in a movie when I listened to the song. When we made the music video it made the most sense to put it out first. A lot of my upcoming songs are about different relationships and this one felt unique.
— Lia D’sau for Tongue Tied Mag

Lia’s debut single “Manboy” is paired with an intense music video that perfectly captures the story of simmering frustration told throughout the new song. Written and directed by Lia and the brilliant Eden Shohat and produced by Omer Tzubery, this music video is one you don’t want to miss. The visual showcases dark, shadowy moments of a relationship crumbling to pieces in a movie theater.

Eager listeners don’t have to wait much longer for future music releases from the up-and-coming singer-songwriter. Lia plans to release her EP in the coming months, which will include intricate, moody songs about relationships she holds close, and those she had to cut out.
