Interview: Boy Blush

Los Angeles based indie musician boy blush, or known personally as Dylan Stone, is a fresh artist to the music scene lacking in any previous musical background. With only two Spotify releases in total, including newly released single ‘Hell With You’, it’s clear that Dylan is still figuring out his style and sound as an artist. Dylan tells us his artist name ‘boy blush’  “just popped in my head. I thought it was cute and light so I stuck with it.“

With his newest release ‘Hell With You’ written from personal experience, Dylan tells us that he frequently switches between writing from real events he’s experienced to other issues that he feels important to discuss in his songs. ‘Hell With You’ specifically details the progression of a relationship with a toxic partner, shared with the hopes it makes his listeners feel something. Originally writing a lot of his music alone, Dylan felt great stress in his processes, and recently decided to work together more with others to lift the pressure off his brain, telling us “I think that comes with trusting whoever you’re writing with.” Collaborating with his two roommates Caleb Hulin and Aaron Brohman on his newest release certainly gave the new single a fresh new depth as the pair both have a deeper musical background and their own talents within the industry themselves.

Looking into the future, Dylan aims to pursue music full-time and explains his current goal is simply to be able to do it for a living. While still being a new artist, Dylan says he still isn’t quite sure where he may go with his musical sound and that, “thinking that far ahead is a crazy concept to me.” It may be a ways to go before an EP, but there will be plenty of new songs on the way giving him the chance to experiment and try things out to work out what’s best for him as he progresses more into the music world.
